Chief Participates in Lycoming County Gas Well Education Day
Law enforcement and emergency responders learned about safety and security issues related to gas exploration.
WILLIAMSPORT, PA (March 30, 2010) – Chief Oil & Gas LLC ("Chief") employees and other industry representatives recently participated in the Lycoming County Gas Well Education Day sponsored by the Lycoming County Gas Exploration Task Force. The purpose of the event was to educate law enforcement and emergency responders about safety and security issues related to gas exploration.
Representatives from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, Department of Homeland Security, State Police, State Fire Commission, FBI, and Department of Labor & Industry heard presentations from industry representatives including Ted Wurfel, Environmental Health and Safety Manager for Chief, who explained compressor stations and pipelines, and Dameon Scott, Safety Manager for Chief, who discussed security issues associated with gas drilling sites.
Following the presentations, attendees were given a tour of Chief Oil & Gas’ local operations. The tour visited a drilling site, water impoundment, compressor stations and pipelines operated by Chief.
Craig Konkle, chairman of the Lycoming County Community Gas Exploration Task Force Public Safety sub-committee, remarked, "It was apparent that there was a need for state level emergency preparedness and response folks to be aware of what's happening in this part of the state.”
The event was designed to provide attendees with an "information-packed" day regarding gas industry issues. Attendees and organizers felt it was a great success.
