Chief
Donates GIS Data to Lycoming County
Recently, Chief
Oil & Gas donated geographic information system (GIS)
mapping data to the Lycoming County Planning and Community Development
Department. The GIS data will
allow county planners to map information for county-wide planning
and emergency services.
The GIS data includes
aerial orthophotography (mapping) of a designated growth area along
Interstate 180 from Jersey Shore to the eastern part of Lycoming County.
Helping Communities Map the Way
Tim Grigas, GIS Specialist
for Chief Oil & Gas, donates mapping data to Lycoming
County.
The
aerial
orthophotography and LiDAR derived
contour data was acquired in 2008 and the data includes approximately
800 sq. kilometers of aerial photography and 2 foot contour data for Lycoming County.
According to
county Geographic Information Systems and Data
Systems planner Frances Jones, it would cost the
county $250,000 to develop the mapping on its
own. "It's very valuable", said Ms.
Jones.
Tim Grigas, a
GIS Specialist for Chief Gathering LLC, the
pipeline subsidiary of Chief Oil & Gas LLC,
presented the donation to county planners on
February 4. Commenting on the donation, Mr.
Grigas said, "This is an example of Chief's
commitment to promoting growth and development in
the areas where we live and
work.

New
Field Office in Fayette County
Chief is
proud
to announce the opening of our newest field office
in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. This office is convenient to
our leasehold and operations in Southwestern PA and will allow
Chief to strenghten its business and relationships with the
local community.
The
office, located in the University Technology Park near Uniontown, is
currently occupied by the right-of-way contractors working for Chief
Gathering, the pipeline subsidiary of Chief Oil & Gas. They
are acquiring pipeline easements in Cambria, Somerset
and Fayette
Counties in Pennsylvania and Preston County, West Virginia. In
addition to pipeline easements, compressor and pipeline tap sites are
being acquired to move Chief production into available high-pressure
transmission lines.
Chief has
also leased a nearby warehouse and five acreas of
yard space to be used for pipe storage. Currently, the
warehouse is being renovated and should be ready by
April 1st.
The
Uniontown office is Chief's third office in Pennsylvania.
Crush Injury Seminar
Chief has
teamed up with the Lycoming County Department of
Public Safety and the Community Gas Exploration Task Force to offer a
training seminar for health care professionals, emergency responders
and natural gas industry employees.
Safety rules
and regulations are important and Chief continually educates and
stresses safety to our workforce, emergency responders and the local
community.
The focus
of the seminar is trauma, crush,
and high-pressure injection injuries related to the drilling and
production of natural gas. The seminar will include presentations
and injury case studies from natural gas industry experts and
physicians.
The seminar will be held Saturday, May 9 from
9am to 4pm at
the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport.
For more
information, contact the Lycoming County Department of Public Safety at
570-433-4461.
New
Website Features Educational Tools
Chief launched a
newly
redesigned website last month which includes interactive
educational tools
to teach landowners and others in the community about
the natural gas exploration process and the equipment used.
The education
section features a short video explaining the exploration process from
start to finish. Visitors can also explore the components of a
drilling rig through an interactive drilling rig.
