Domestic Supply of Natural Gas Lowers Energy Costs for U.S. Homeowners in Coming Months
This winter natural gas will provide warmth to approximately 65 million homes and 5 million businesses, hospitals and schools across the United States. And thanks to abundant domestic supplies in Pennsylvania and Texas, natural gas is a low cost source of energy. This winter, according to the Wall Street Journal, residential gas heating bills are expected to fall by 3.8 percent.
“In the debates over energy, it is often easy to forget that the responsible development of natural gas from shale increases U.S. energy independence while providing families and businesses a low cost, clean burning source of heat,” said Kristi Gittins, Vice President of Industry and Public Affairs for Chief.
According to the Department of Energy, natural gas is the lowest cost conventional energy source available for residential use, about 68 percent less than the cost of electricity.
